Today’s Team Duval Shoutout goes to Pablo Tolentino and Xavier Curtis for going above and beyond to support Fort Caroline Elementary-FCE! 💙

Nominated by Fort Caroline Principal Dr. Roberts-Graham, Pablo and Xavier, district employees, were sent to Fort Caroline to address an AC unit that was in serious need of attention. They did an amazing job getting it cleaned and properly taken care of. Their thoroughness, professionalism, and attention to detail made a big difference and did not go unnoticed!

Thank you, Pablo and Xavier, for your hard work and for helping ensure our schools are well cared for and comfortable for students and staff. We appreciate all that you do! 👏

A new field, a new chapter, and another investment in our students! 🏟️💙

Last weekend, we celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new field at Fletcher High School, made possible through funding from the 1-mill referendum. This new space will give students more opportunities to learn, compete, build teamwork and create lasting memories.

Congratulations to the Fletcher Senators and the entire school community! We can’t wait to see all that happens on this field. 🎉

Why is the 1 mill back on the ballot this year?

The current 1 mill was approved by Duval County voters in 2022. Under Florida law, voters must consider the continuation of the millage every four years, which is why it will appear on the November ballot.

Since 2022, the 1 mill has helped support teacher compensation and our efforts to recruit and retain qualified, certified educators. During that time, teacher vacancies have declined and teacher retention has increased, while Duval has become an A-rated school district for two consecutive years.

Big things are happening at the intersection of cybersecurity, AI and K–12 education! 🔐🤖

Congratulations to our partners at the University of North Florida on receiving a more than $720,000, three-year National Security Agency grant to support CyberJaxAI-PATH.

Through this partnership, UNF, FSCJ, Jacksonville University and Duval County Public Schools will work together to bring AI-integrated cybersecurity learning, hands-on experiences and new pathways to our students and educators.

We’re proud to be part of preparing the next generation of innovators

Congratulations to School of Computing faculty members Dr. Swapnoneel Roy and Dr. Ayan Dutta on a major new award from the NSA - National Security Agency.

The more than $720,000, three-year grant will support CyberJaxAI-PATH: Cyber AI Pathways for K–12 Education, a project led by UNF in partnership with Florida State College at Jacksonville, Jacksonville University, and Duval County Public Schools.

Roy, professor of computing and director of UNF’s Center for Cybersecurity, will serve as principal investigator and coalition lead. The UNF team also includes Dr. Daniel Dinsmore.

Together, the team will develop AI-integrated cybersecurity curriculum, provide hands-on training and professional development for teachers, and help create pathways for students to continue into college programs and careers in cybersecurity and AI.
