Super busy week before fall break!
Seniors began running their CNC turning projects, second years are running manual mills and first years are making a drift key.
Our SkillsUSA secretary (also FFA reporter) attended JLDC in Birmingham.
We hosted Alexandria 8th graders for tours, and ended the week with a few games of co****le and chess.

Super proud of these students this week!

This week in the machine shop, students have worked on their metrology skills with telescoping gauges, outside micrometers, depth micrometers, height gauges and test indicators.

Students have continued learning about trigging and milling angles on milling machines, drilling/tapping holes and heat treatment of metals as they completed making their own inserted turning tool for one of our CNC lathes.

Jada Woodrow was elected as Secretary for our campus SkillsUSA chapter!

I also had the opportunity to catch up with some of our former students as they were in their night classes with GSCC in the CoMeT program.

This week students have been learning about indicating a mill vise, tramming a mill head, how to wring together gauge blocks, how to calculate gauge block height for settling a sine plate to a given angle, and surface grinding. We also have two of our students running to be a campus SkillsUSA officer and they began campaigning this week as well.

It has been an action packed week in the machine shop with students practicing indicating mill vises, indicating a 4-jaw chuck on lathes, setting tool height offsets on CNC mills, running production on CNC mills, practicing with measuring tools like dial calipers, micrometers and height gauges, doing community service, and beginning new jobs in local industry!

Today we had the blessing of being able to make a few small adjustments and modifications to make a wheelchair carrier easier to operate for a community member.

This project allowed our first year students to demonstrate their newly acquired measuring skills, to learn about different cutting tools such as drills and reamers, and apply problem solving skills to make the required modifications to make this carrier a little more user friendly.
