How do our bones protect our vital organs? 🦴🔬

Through the Structure and Function Project, students explored this connection by designing protective structures using paper, tape, and glue. A hands-on challenge that brought anatomy, creativity, and engineering together and they did it! 👏

Our Costume Design students explored exaggerated theatrical makeup through face charts, using bold colors, shapes, and details to bring unique characters to life.

Creativity on paper. Storytelling in every stroke. ✨

Our 5th and 6th graders read a book over the summer, rebuilt it piece by piece, and defended their choices out loud.

“I was to be seen and not heard.”
That’s how our Head of School describes her own school days in the Bronx.
TFA has been the opposite since 1988.
Here kids are think-partners , they question, build, and defend ideas out loud.

“She took a picture of a kid that was almost unrecognizable to me.”
That’s what Ellie’s mom wrote after seeing a photo from her daughter’s first week back.
Not a new uniform. Not a test score. A face she hadn’t seen in a long time.
Ellie is a kid who shuts down under pressure and shame. So she had to be loved before she could learn. Multi-age classes. Two teachers in every room. Grown-ups who still hug a kid who needs a hug.
That’s not a program we run. It’s a decision we make every morning.

When was the last time your child wrote something by hand?
Not typed. Wrote.

Today our students talked about why handwriting still matters focus, memory, clearer thinking. At TFA it’s still part of how we learn, because slowing down is a skill too.

Technology has its place. So does a pencil.
