CELEBRATING 10 YEARS! This year marks a special milestone for Magen Altice as she celebrates a decade as Executive Director of the St. Augustine Historical Society and seventeen years with the Society altogether. Her connection to SAHS began as an intern under Dr. Susan Parker, an experience that sparked a lasting commitment to preserving and sharing St. Augustine’s history. Today, as Executive Director, Magen oversees the Society’s museums, historic properties, collections, publications, exhibitions, and educational programs, with a particular passion for making the city’s history meaningful and accessible to the community.

Magen holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the University of North Florida and also teaches St. Augustine in World History at Flagler College, where she encourages students to experience the city and its history beyond the classroom. Throughout her time with SAHS, she has worked alongside organizations and individuals across the community on preservation initiatives, exhibitions, publications, and public programs. One project she is particularly proud of is the St. Augustine Surf Culture Museum, a concept she co-developed and helped bring to life through oral histories, research, and community involvement.

Reaching this milestone is especially meaningful for Magen because the St. Augustine Historical Society is where her career as a public historian began. What started as an internship seventeen years ago has grown into a career dedicated to an organization, a community, and a history she cares deeply about, and to ensuring that St. Augustine’s stories continue to be preserved and shared for generations to come.

Best of Florida: Winner Accouncement

We’re honored to announce that the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum has been named a 2026 Best of Florida Regional Winner in the Museums category by the readers and editors of Guide to Florida!

As one of this year’s proud recipients, we are grateful to be recognized among Florida’s outstanding museums and honored with an award received by fewer than 10% of Florida businesses and organizations.

This recognition would not be possible without the incredible support of our visitors, community, and everyone who voted for us. Your encouragement helps us continue preserving the stories, architecture, and history of the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum while sharing this remarkable piece of St. Augustine’s past with future generations.

Thank you for celebrating this achievement with us!
