The College of Health Professions and Wellness is heartbroken by the passing of Dr. Bonnie Thornhill, Professor Emeritus. Dr. Thornhill worked many years as a nurse and educator. “She was a compassionate nurse, and a wonderful educator who shaped countless lives”. Dr. Thornhill has left a great legacy with Dr. Missy Duckett, Nursing Faculty, and Tanya Schoonover, Nursing Adjunct Faculty. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and thoughts and prayers during this time. Dr. Thornhill will truly be missed!

Calhoun County Career Academy Mental Health Fair

JSU Nursing students in NU 326 presented and discussed mental health topics with Calhoun County Career Academy Med Prep students during a two-day mental health fair.

Topics of focus included: procrastination and anxiety, self-esteem and confidence, showing respect for self and others, dealing with difficult people and situations, ways to manage stress and anxiety, anxiety & coping mechanisms, a schizophrenia Simulation/Presentation, a game of Jeopardy covering self-esteem, self-confidence & SMART goals, bullying, what is anger, anger management, conflict Resolution, and using "I" statements, depression & anxiety screenings, positively reframing thoughts/phrases, and the importance of sleep for mental health.

"Fun Pharm Day" at the JSU School of Nursing by presenting "The Beat". Students presented medication information about classes of cardiac medications. The innovative teaching and learning strategy....the "hated" group-work!! Students made musical lyrics with medication information and then presented their information by singing/rapping their presentations.
