Transition to Health, Resources, Independence, Viable careers, and Education The best part of Project THRIVE is that we are completely FREE to UNF students!

Across the nation, hundreds of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are applying and enrolling in colleges and universities, and at the University of North Florida (UNF), we are proud that our numbers of students with ASD are dramatically parallel to national trends. To ensure UNF students with ASD experience successful collegiate benchmarks, we have developed Project THRIVE (Transition t

o Health, Resources, Independence, Viable careers, and Education). Our review of current research about the needs of college students with ASD has resulted in the incorporation of evidenced-based components in Project THRIVE. In the THRIVE model, you will note the Core Components: (a) Situational Social Skills, (b) Independent Responsible Living, and (c) Career Development. These Core Components comprise the fundamental premises of THRIVE and consist of a series of steps to achieve competency in that core area. Using students’ strengths and skills, THRIVE personnel will elevate each individual’s skills in these essential life areas. Self-awareness, coupled with community consciousness and informed mindfulness of others are THRIVE concepts that will be taught, supported and encouraged daily THRIVE participants will have opportunities to participate with individual coaches, group support meetings, personal counseling sessions, health check-ins, and other support entities. Yet another facet of awareness is to promote awareness among college students, faculty and staff about the strengths and talents of college students with ASD, along with their needs for support services. Project THRIVE is the ONLY college transition program of it's kind at the University level in the state of Florida. The few other colleges and universities offering programs similar to THRIVE are charging students thousands of dollars a semester! At THRIVE, we are completely dependent on grants and donations to keep our program THRIVING. As part of the FSCJ Author Series, we are working on a photo/multimedia exhibit to coordinate with this year's featured author, Autism Expert Temple Grandin. We're looking for folks who might be interested in being featured, including FSCJ students and others in the community on the spectrum. The portraits and videos will be on display during Dr. Grandin's visit at the Wilson Center on South Campus.I am sending you this info as you might know some special individuals you want to celebrate.
This is a great opportunity to highlight your amazing students! Please be a part of highlighting the amazing individuals in our hometown!

Shoots will take place at the Deerwood Campus TV Studio and should only take about 30 minutes. The photo/video shoots would take place between now and the middle of February, and the exhibit date is March 6-17 at both our Downtown and South Campus galleries. Those being featured will be given a digital copy of their portrait.
