Johannes Gutenberg (1393–1468) forever changed the world with his invention of movable type and the printing press. 📚✨ Once, books were rare treasures copied by hand and kept only in monasteries—Gutenberg’s press made them faster, cheaper, and available to everyone. His determination and innovation sparked a revolution in knowledge that still shapes our world today. 🌍🖋️

Herman Melville (1819–1891) grew up in New York, faced family hardship after his father’s death, and worked many jobs before sailing the world on whaling and naval ships. His adventures inspired Typee and Omoo, which brought him early fame, but his ambitious allegory Moby-Dick (1851) was a commercial failure at first. The novel blends thrilling sea tales, deep symbolism, and themes of man vs. nature and destructive obsession, Moby-Dick is now one of the greatest American classics. 📖⚓🐋

At just 18 years old, Ashe was sentenced to life in prison. She never gave up hope, pursuing education and prayer while holding onto faith that her day would come. On April 1, 2021—25 years later—she walked free, reunited with her family, and began building a new life through Operation New Hope and RESTORE Duval. Today, Ashe is a student, mentor, and community leader, showing that with perseverance and God’s guidance, the sky is the limit. 🌟

STATES & COUNTRIES: Florida

🇪🇸 🇺🇸 Florida was first named “La Florida” by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León in 1513—"the land of flowers." It became the first part of the U.S. mainland settled by Europeans, with St. Augustine (founded in 1565) as the oldest city in the country.

That same year marked the first recorded Christian marriage in what is now the U.S.—between a free Black woman and a white Spanish man. Florida also became a sanctuary for enslaved people fleeing the colonies, under Spain’s condition of Catholic conversion.

Long before Europeans arrived, Florida was home to Native nations like the Apalachee, Timucua, Calusa, and others. Later, Seminole resistance would lead to three major wars before Florida became the 27th U.S. state in 1845—and a Confederate state by 1861.

☀️ In the modern era, air conditioning helped fuel Florida’s population boom and economic growth. Now home to 23 million people, it boasts:
🏝 The longest coastline in the U.S.
🌊 The only coral reef in the continental U.S.
🌎 The 15th largest economy in the world

FIGURES IN HISTORY: Helen Keller

👩‍🦯 Born in 1880, Helen Keller lost her sight and hearing as a toddler—but with the help of her teacher Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate through finger spelling. She became the first deaf-blind person to earn a college degree in the U.S., graduating from Radcliffe in 1904.

Helen spent her life writing, speaking, and fighting for disability rights, women’s rights, and education access. Her 1903 book The Story of My Life still inspires readers with its message of patience, trust, and the power of connection.

✨ Keller’s legacy reminds us: Everyone has something important to contribute.
