🚀 From Jacksonville to the Moon and back!

Today, NC State officially renamed Engineering Building II as Christina Hammock Koch Hall to honor our legendary three-time alumna! 🐺✨

We were thrilled to have Governor Josh Stein join Chancellor Kevin Howell today to celebrate this historic homecoming. Governor Stein highlighted how Christina's incredible journey—from attending White Oak High School in Jacksonville, NC, to flying around the Moon on NASA's Artemis II mission—is a powerful testament to the impact of North Carolina public schools and STEM education.
Christina’s journey shows every student in North Carolina that the sky is no longer the limit! 🌌🎒

Check out the full highlights of her "Around the Moon and Pack Again" campus visit on the NC State News Event Page.

On this Travel Tuesday, we are on Bear Island, a must-visit beach for the adventurers among us. It’s the crown jewel of Hammocks Beach State Park. Bear Island hosts nesting sea turtles each year, and the “no trash” policy keeps the beach pristine and protected for generations to come. A visit to Bear Island is a great way to spend a day at the beach during National Parks and Recreation Month!

Check out our 7 tips for a great day at Bear Island: https://www.dncr.nc.gov/blog/2026/06/25/7-tips-great-day-bear-island
