And perhaps most importantly, we have wonderful students who are ready to partner with your child and grow alongside them.

If traditional school isn’t working for your family, your student needs a more personalized learning experience, or you simply want to refresh your homeschool routine and schedule, now is the time to reach out.

šŸŽ‰ Please join us in welcoming Ms. Janae Lattery as our Reading Specialist! šŸ“š

After serving as a volunteer last year, Ms. Lattery is officially joining the Our Homeroom Jax team! She will provide literacy instruction, lead our schoolwide literacy programming, and partner with families to support reading success at home.

At Our Homeroom Jax, we believe students deserve educators with a proven track record of success. Ms. Lattery brings years of experience as a literacy educator, curriculum developer, consultant, and founder of Leading Legends with Literacy. Her impressive results include 83% reading growth in just four months at one of Jacksonville’s lowest-performing schools and helping microschool students achieve 80th–99th percentile reading performance through targeted instruction.

Ms. Lattery graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, holds a Master of Public Administration, and is pursuing her Doctorate in Education with a focus on reading, literacy, and cognition.

We are excited for our students and families to benefit from her passion, expertise, and commitment to helping every child become a confident reader. Welcome to the team, Ms. Lattery! šŸ’™šŸ“–

Allow me to reintroduce myself šŸ˜†

Hi, I’m Mariah Dorvil, the founder, director, and lead instructor of Our Homeroom Jax! This is my 12th year in education, and I couldn’t be more proud of the journey that’s led me here. I graduated from Howard University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and philosophy, and later earned my master’s in business.

In addition to running this program, I work as an FTCE instructor for Duval County Public Schools, helping teachers pass the General Knowledge Math exam to become certified. Back in 2022, my 5th-grade math students achieved the largest increase in proficiency out of 99 traditional schools in Duval County. The following year, I was recognized as a High Impact Teacher by the Florida Department of Education—an honor only 6 teachers in Jacksonville received that year and fewer than 30 across the entire state!

In 2024, I was awarded the Cindy Edelman Excellence in Teaching Fellowship and sponsored by the Jacksonville Public Education Fund to travel to Malawi, Africa. There, I worked to empower and educate Malawian children through creative and active play programs.

At Our Homeroom Jax, I’m passionate about guiding students toward conceptual understanding in math. While our lessons look fun (and they are!), everything we do is rooted in research-based strategies designed to help students truly grasp mathematical concepts—not just memorize facts. I use tools and approaches that align with their developmental stages, building fluency and confidence for deeper learning.

Outside of being a math nerd, I’m a lover of animals, art, reading, traveling, and—most importantly—butter pecan ice cream! Thank you for following along and supporting Our Homeroom Jax. I’m excited to continue this journey with you all!

How do you want your child to remember school? As a place filled with constant testing, bullies, and rote memorization—or as a place that inspired them, challenged them, and catered to their interests? That matters when you’re creating a lifelong learner. ā¤ļø

When you look at this video, you may see fun—but as a teacher, I also see differentiation, scaffolding, independence, and engagement because the teaching is student-centered. šŸ“šāœØ

DM us for more information if you’re looking to switch from traditional school or enhance your homeschooling experience.

At Our Homeroom Jax, our learners worked hard this year—but they also had the freedom to learn at their own pace, explore their interests, and discover their strengths.

From reading, math, science, and social studies to French, Spanish, cursive, entrepreneurship, the arts, and social-emotional learning, every child experienced an education designed with them in mind. Along the way, we explored our community through monthly field trips and countless hands-on learning experiences.

Most importantly, our students didn’t just grow academically. They grew in confidence, independence, curiosity, and self-belief.

None of this would have been possible without the partnership of our families, the dedication of our teachers, and the support of our community.

This year reminded us that education is not one-size-fits-all. When learning is student-centered, it can be truly transformative.

Congratulations to our learners on an incredible year. We can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish next. šŸ’™

Our students worked incredibly hard this year, and we are so proud of the excellent growth they achieved academically, socially, and personally! At Our Homeroom Jax, we believe learning should be engaging, meaningful, and student-centered. Through hands-on learning experiences, critical thinking and reasoning, real-world application, and student-led learning opportunities, our students were able to build confidence while truly understanding what they were learning.

As we approach the end of the school year, we are officially in celebration mode and soaking in every special moment with our students and families! šŸŽ‰

Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will begin in June. Families interested in joining our microschool should not hesitate to reach out, as we anticipate meeting capacity quickly.

If you would like to discuss whether Our Homeroom Jax may be a good fit for your family, text Mariah Dorvil, Founder & Director, at 904-616-3400.
