In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Christopher’s life-altering journey begins with a single, jarring discovery: the death of Wellington, his neighbor’s dog. As artists, we are committed to telling the story exactly as the playwright intended. While we’ve worked to keep our production streamlined and symbolic, we do use a prop dog on stage to maintain the emotional weight of Christopher’s catalyst.

On Saturday, April 25th, the special sensory-friendly matinee of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime offers a uniquely supportive environment designed for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and sensory sensitivities. This performance intentionally modifies the play’s typically intense technical elements, featuring reduced sound levels, minimized strobe lighting, and adjusted house lights to create a more comfortable atmosphere. Unlike a standard theater experience, audience members are encouraged to move freely, make noise, and utilize designated "quiet spaces" or "take a break" areas if the on-stage action becomes overwhelming. By prioritizing inclusivity, this production allows everyone to witness Christopher Boone's extraordinary journey through a mystery that ultimately celebrates his unique perspective and potential.

Director of Bands, Ted Shistle had the opportunity to hear two of our alumni play at this year's FMEA conference. We are proud of these two DA grads with principal positions in the Florida Orchestra. Hamza Able is beginning his first year as principal timpanist and Mitchell Kuhn is principal oboe. Both sounded fantastic today (even in an interesting performing space), especially on the Britten Four Sea Interludes. We love to see our DA grads soaring as artists and professionals!!
