Mr. James "Jim" "Jimmy" William Moore Jr., 75 longtime resident of Keystone Heights and MelroseMay 12, 1947 - Oct 9, 2022
Mr. James William Moore, Jr. passed away peacefully Sunday, October 9, 2022,
at the age of 75. Diagnosed almost one year ago today with Idiopathic
Pulmonary Fibrosis, he fought bravely through this horrible disease while
rarely complaining. He was born on May 12, 1947, in Jacksonville to the late
James William and Dorothy Mae (Prewitt) Moore, Sr. He was in the class of
1965 at Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida and he attended FSU
for one year. He started playing the trumpet in the 8th grade and continued
through his high school years. In the latter part of the 60’s, he played trumpet
in a band called Mouse The Boys & Brass. They played many venues in both
Florida and Georgia. He started his almost 35 year career as a switchman with
Southern Bell in Jacksonville which lead him to being promoted to marketing
where he then worked with AT&T in Jacksonville before finishing his career as
a Systems Designer with Bellsouth in Gainesville.
Following his retirement, he enjoyed learning how to play golf. He also helped
to arrange and play trumpet in two reunion concerts (2003, 2005) for Mouse
The Boys & Brass. He partnered with Reid Tillery to form a successful LLC
called Cost Checks, a telecommunications consulting and auditing business.
After 16 years, he was forced to quit due to his illness.
He lived in Jacksonville until 1985 when he and his family moved to Melrose.
After living in Melrose for 26 years, he and his wife decided to move to Madeira
Beach, FL in 2011. Six years later in 2017, they moved to Keystone Heights
where he lived until his death. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years,
Cathy Pinholster Moore and their two sons James Aaron Moore and Brian Scott
Moore: one sister Laura Lee Bullock (Bob), and nieces Dawn Bullock
Stubblefield and Wendy Bullock McCallister as well as a Nephew Mike Bullock.
Other surviving family members include cousins James H. McCarty Jr., Marilu
Minnick Milstead, Bobby Minnick, George Minnick, and John Trapp. Viewing for
Mr. Moore will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2022, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in
the funeral home chapel with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. A private
interment will follow at Eliam Cemetery.
