Congrats Journey, Ella, and Jaidan and the FFA!

The Good News Spotlight during Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting included the presentation of a $13,700 grant to White Oak High School's Future Farmers of America program to fund a student-built arboretum featuring native plants and a mapped and digitally cataloged plant collection.

The grant was awarded by the N.C. To***co Trust Fund Commission, which has provided agricultural grants since 2000.

Congratulations to our two major award winners, Emilee Cumbo and Gabby Owens! Emilee (8th grade violinist) is this year’s Director’s Award winner, and Gabby (12th grade violist) won this year’s National School Orchestra Award. Their names and photos will forever be enshrined on our walls with all the past winners!

2025-26 is officially over, and we have another exemplary addition to our cello project! 8th grade’s design this year was centered around their MPA being cancelled due to stormy tornado weather, as well as some of the memorable music they played, like “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters this year and “Aztec Warrior” back in 6th grade. Our artists Emilee and Maddie did a wonderful job bringing the class’ ideas and design to life! It was nice to get everyone (minus 7 absences, sadly) together for a picture on the last day of school!

What a great day of music making at two of our feeder elementary schools, Hunters Creek and Silverdale! The OAKestra had a blast playing for the K-2 students at HCES and their beautiful K-Pop singing, as well as Silverdale’s 5th graders discussing joining music soon as middle schoolers. We look forward to our second tour date next week when we go to Morton and Woodland!
