Today we are so excited to celebrate an exceptional teacher at Dinsmore. Ms. Nixon has taught at Dinsmore for the last 21 years and has taught every grade level K-5. She is currently a kindergarten teacher instilling a love for school to our tiniest learners. Ms. Nixon received two Gratitude in Ink letters from graduating seniors detailing how great of an impact she has had on their lives.

The first letter is from a graduating senior attending Darnell Cookman School of thr Arts. The student wrote “Your patience, encouragement, and belief in me helped build a foundation that I’ve carried with me throughout middle school and high school. I still remember how you made learning exciting and how you created a classroom where everyone felt seen and supported. At that age, it’s easy to underestimate how much a teacher’s words matter, but yours did.”

The second letter, from a senior at Paxon School for Advanced Studies, shared Ms. Nixons impact both in the classroom and on the field. She wrote “In your classroom, you pushed me to do my best, but you also made learning feel safe and fun. On the field, you taught me discipline, teamwork, and confidence. You showed me what it looks like when a teacher truly invests in their students — not just in their grades, but in who they are as people.”

Ms. Nixon, thank you for all you have done to ensure students excel as a member of the team on and off the field and always setting the standard for excellence. Your dedication knows no bounds. You are the very definition of “you can do whatever you put your mind to”.

Today we celebrate Ms. Cynthia Crothers, our K-5 science resource teacher. She received a Gratitude in Ink letter from a graduating senior attending Paxon School for Advanced Studies. The student wrote “You made me work for what I wanted, and I ended up making an A in your class. That A made me believe that I could make a difference in the world. Now, as a senior about to join the Army National Guard, and going to UNF to major in Forensic Technology, I look back to the teacher that made me love science and who made me believe I could follow my dreams…”

Thank you Ms. Crothers for inspiring the love of science and helping students realize that they can achieve their dreams.

We have another one! Our teacher spotlight today goes to Elizabeth Mayernick, a 5th grade math and science teacher. Ms. Mayernick’s “Gratitude in Ink” letter comes from a graduating senior currently attending Jean Ribault High School. In his letter, the student recalled the small things, like stamping his planner, that made a big impact on him. He wrote “Looking back now I see what you did was intentional and transformative. You were not trying to punish me; you were nurturing my autonomy and teaching me accountability. By holding me responsible for my actions, you helped me grow into someone who understands the value of discipline and self-reliance”.

Thank you Ms. Mayernick for loving students through their tough moments, always seeing their potential, and introducing them to a world of possibilities.
