Mrs. Amanda Thomas has over 20 years of teaching experience, including many years in Kindergarten and first grade, as well as 9 years as a reading interventionist for Duval County Public Schools.

In her classroom, Mrs. Thomas works to create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect to students’ lives and the world around them. She believes students learn best when reading, writing, math, science, and problem solving are connected through exploration, creativity, and real-world experiences.

At Martin J. Gottlieb Day School, this also means helping students understand that their Jewish identity is not separate from the rest of their education. It is part of who they are every day and can be reflected throughout everything they learn. Whether students are reading, writing, exploring science, or celebrating holidays and traditions, Mrs. Thomas helps them make meaningful connections between academics, identity, values, and community.

We are so grateful for the heart, thoughtfulness, and experience Mrs. Thomas brings to her students each day! πŸ’™

Chag Shavuot Sameach from our school family!

This week we celebrated Shavuot through our Bikkurim Program! Students carried baskets of fresh fruit through campus and into the sanctuary, reenacting the ancient tradition of bringing the first fruits to Jerusalem.

We were also treated to an amazing performance by our 1st graders, who took the stage to share the story of the Giving of the Ten Commandments. They did an incredible job!

All donated fruit was given to MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation Thank you to every family who brought a donation and made this day so special! πŸ’™πŸŽπŸπŸŒ

Mazal tov to all of our students recognized at this year’s awards ceremony for the many ways they lead, learn, serve, and shine at Martin J. Gottlieb Day School!

From Character Awards and National Junior Honor Society to Torah Reading Leadership, Safety Patrols, Reading Challenge, Principal’s List, and so much more, we are so proud of each and every honoree.

A special highlight was the presentation of the Martin J. Gottlieb Mensch Award, our highest honor of the year. Presented by Debbie and Mel Gottlieb in loving memory of their son, Martin J. Gottlieb, for whom our school is named, this award recognizes a student who truly embodies kindness, character, and what it means to be a mensch. πŸ’™πŸ†

Genius Hour gives our 4th and 5th graders the chance to learn like real researchers do. They pick a passion topic, study it deeply, and reach out to an expert in that field before putting together a full presentation. Watching students light up when they talk about something they chose to learn about is exactly why we love this program. We are so proud of this group of young thinkers! πŸ”ŽπŸ§

Last week our 4th & 5th graders had the best time at Fort Caroline! They learned all about the history and culture of the Mocama people through β€œLife and Times of the Mocama,” got to participate in interactive activities with a ranger, and took in the scenery and history of Fort Caroline. Such a great day! πŸŒΏπŸ“š
