Yeah, the military orders and deployments have been a real party pooper for our class schedule, but don't worry, your BlackBeard Scuba Pro instructors are still super committed to staying on top of their game.

Recently, the BlackBeard Pros went all out and got their TDI ANDP and IANTD adv TRIMIX certifications, and just for kicks, they also refreshed their PSI cylinder inspector and O2 cleaner certifications.

We're stoked to get back to diving with our favorite scuba crew and hope our pirate and mermaid pals have been staying safe and making plenty of bubbles 🏴‍☠️🤿🧜‍♀️

This week's Reef Ranger Spotlight features Joshua Beard of BlackBeard Scuba LLC. Joshua is the lead instructor and owner for BlackBeard Scuba LLC in Jacksonville and works onboard Nautical Charters charter boat as a mate. Joshua is also a Divemaster, safety swimmer, and a PADI Master instructor in Jacksonville. Josh is an experienced diver who loves harvesting invasive lionfish in the local waters around Jacksonville. Josh's love and passion for his country are displayed in his still active service as a Senior Chief Independent Duty Corpsman after 24 years of service. Josh fell in love with Jacksonville's offshore dive sites onboard the R/V Explorer, which ignited his passion for spear fishing and wreck diving. Josh has been participating in the FWC Lionfish Challenge the past 4 years, and also participated in the inaugural Northeast Florida Lionfish Round Up held last year in Jacksonville.

The Legendary Pirate Captain Edward "Blackbeard" Teach was slain off the coast of North Carolina

Undoubtedly the most famous pirate in history, Blackbeard's reign of terror only lasted a mere 2 years but, he left his mark.
Instead of being violent like most contemporary pirates, Blackbeard used scare tactics and his fearsome size of six foot 4 inches tall (a rare height back in those days) to scare his opponents into submission.

There is actually no written account of Blackbeard being outright violent to anyone and the only time he truly fought like a pirate, was on the day he himself fell in battle.

He called North Carolina home and the remains of his flagship, The Queen Anne's Revenge is now in several museums on the NC coast.
He has left his mark in history being portrayed by several actors on both the big and small screen and several songs honor his memory.

After over 300 years, his legend lives on.
