🎹 Glenn Gould + J.S. Bach = 🔥 This is Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in D minor BWV 1052 with Leonard Bernstein on the podium. Right in that cadenza you get the longest, slowest decrescendo ever put on tape. It’s like he’s pulling the entire hall into a whisper without losing a single thread of control. Velvet precision with steel underneath 🎧✨ Fun fact #1: Bach probably wrote this concerto first for violin and later reworked it for harpsichord. Gould turns it into a power-drill of clarity with that trademark detached articulation and insane rhythmic discipline. Fun fact #2: This 1960 performance with the New York Philharmonic was so legendary that Bernstein introduced it onstage by explaining Gould’s extreme tempos to the audience. It became one of the great “artist vs. conductor” lore moments of the 20th century. Fun fact #3: Gould’s humming on this recording is practically a bonus instrument.
