Meet Reese Hanna hailing from Nassau, Bahamas. A student in the JSU Department of Applied Engineering focusing on automation & robotics, her journey is all about innovation & inspiration!
My brother sparked my interest in technology. Watching him fix gadgets made me want to dive deep into the world of electronics.
For incoming students, Reese offers some wise words: "Set aside plenty of study time! Understanding new concepts takes patience, so donโt get discouraged. Keep pushing forward!"
Beyond academics, Reese is actively involved with the Student Activities Council and values community service. Her secret to balancing it all? "I plan efficiently and use my calendar and sticky notes to stay on track!"

Introducing Dr. Dana Ingalsbe, who joined the Jax State team in the early 2000s, and served as the department head for JSU Department of Applied Engineering from 2019-2023. Now she's spending her time in the classroom working more closely with students and focusing on new projects to elevate the program.

โAlways take advantage of the opportunities presented in classes and extracurriculars because they will help you gain valuable experience and make connections. Donโt be afraid to get to know your professors. Obviously, we are there for you if you have questions about your classwork, but we also encourage students to stop by and have conversations so we can get to know one another!โ

โIn our programs, many classes have applied or hands-on elements, where students perform simulations, participate in labs, or go into industry to reinforce concepts. We encourage students to participate in work-based learning via co-op education or internships.โ
Thank you Dr. Ingalsbe for your countless contributions to the Applied Engineering department and to Jax State!

Introducing our current : Jackson Davis, an Occupational Safety & Health Management major, from Social Circle, Georgia.
We're excited to share his educational journey and aspirations!

โI came to Jax State because it was the best option for me for college. When I took an Admitted Students Day tour I met Dr. Ingalsbe, who showed me all the different aspects of JSU Department of Applied Engineering. She knew I wanted to pursue engineering but was still on the fence. She showed me how Applied Engineering is a very hands-on program and profession, and that I would be able to interact with people and get on the floor and work.
โIโve always been an involved person. Dr. Ingalsbe saw that and encouraged me to become an Applied Engineering Ambassador, and I still am one today. This position has really helped me network while in school, and interact with the other majors in the department other than my own. I am also the secretary for the chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) on campus and that has provided really great networking opportunities for me and our members.
After graduation, I plan to become a safety engineer for either a construction site or an industrial manufacturing center.
I highly suggest using the Student Success Center in the library for your Gen-Ed classes, because you want to put your focus onto your major courses, as they can be pretty difficult at times. Also, go to your professorsโ office hours because they want to help you, and you can get to know them better!โ

Hayden Hayes (Collinsville, Alabama) shares his perspective in this weekโs . A manufacturing engineering major in the JSU Department of Applied Engineering, Haydenโs internship at Heil Environmental fits his interests. In choosing his major, Hayden noted โI'm passionate about the entire product creation process, and I love finding ways to make it more efficient!โ
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐ผ๐น๐ฒ: Currently, Haydenโs on the front lines of research and development gathering and reporting essential data, interacting with the line and collaborating with engineers to create clear work instructions to drive improved production. Earlier this summer he had the chance to spend a few weeks documenting the assembly process for Heilโs new, revolutionary all electric garbage truck.
This internship has boosted my communication skills and my ability to write detailed and accurate work instructions. And, the presentation skills I learned in class really help me prepare and present my findings.โ
