As we approach the end of the school year, I want to thank all of our parents for your support. On Friday, May 30th, 2025, we will start dismissal at 11:20 am. Have a safe summer!

What an amazing way to start the week at Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative Middle School! Chief Probation Officer Mr. Christopher Massey and his dedicated team from the Florida of Juvenile Justice visited our school to present an informal panel discussion titled, "Staying on Track: Life Lessons from a Probation Officer Perspective."

During this insightful session, the probation officers shared their day-to-day experiences, systemic insights, and the ways they help teens stay on the right path. Our students had an opportunity to ask questions, gaining valuable knowledge about the importance of making positive choices.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Florida of Juvenile Justice for taking the time to engage and inspire our students.

Early Release on Wednesday, March 26, 2025! We will start dismissal promptly at noon.

My students have made a profoundly positive impression on me, exhibiting clear enthusiasm for harvesting collard greens and preparing the soil for squash and eggplants. School gardening provides students with essential knowledge about planting different vegetables at the right times, while developing crucial teamwork skills.

Congratulations to our Civics Teacher, Mrs. Mann for being accepted in the professional learning opportunity for Civics and Government teachers in the State of Florida!!!! Mrs. Mann consistently improves her craft and generously shares her knowledge with her colleagues. We are so proud and honored that she has received this opportunity to further sharpen her skills. We look forward to her return and the continued positive impact she will have on our students.

On November 20, 2024 Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative Middle School was the first alternative school to be named a Blue Zone Approved School! Congratulations to our students, faculty and staff!

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year Mr. Dwayne Butler. Mr. Butler is our Dean of Students, and since he has been serving in this role our discipline referrals have decreased. Thank you Dean Butler for your dedication and commitment to excellence.
