This was a very interesting presentation to sit through at last week Kidz in Motion conference. It’ll be interesting to see what changes are made by car seat manufacturers over the next few years! Manufactures will need to self-certify by 2025!

🚗 recall alert 🚗
Please reach out to Clek if you have a seat included in the voluntary recall
NHTSA and Transport Canada announced our voluntary recall of certain Foonf and Fllo convertible car seats manufactured before May 21, 2021. We have determined that it is possible for a child to access the EPP foam cushion with their fingers through the crotch buckle opening in the fabric and pick at the foam. After repeated picking, it is possible for the child to pick off a small piece and put in their mouth which could present a choking hazard.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When is a child ready for a high back booster???
A child is ready when:
• They are 5 years old and 40lbs
• Able to sit properly for 100% of the ride
When moving a child from a 5pt harness to booster you are taking the responsibility of the safety of the child out of your hands and putting it into their hands!
Don’t rush it!
When you’re positive you and the child are ready and meet the above requirements, use short rides around town to “booster train.”

When I first became a mother, I was overwhelmed by the thought of my children’s safety.
I somehow felt there was a lack of resources especially when it came to car seat safety for my own children.
I knew there needed to be more awareness and more people like myself as a CPST who can help other parents who may feel the same way.
That’s when was created

Car seats after a crash:
# 1 rule always refer to your manual
•Some car seat manufacturers are strictly replace after ANY accident due to the seat not being tested after an accident or failed testing
•Some car seats follow NHTSA guidelines and DO NOT need to be replaced after a MINOR accident
What is considered a minor accident?
•A minor crash is one in which ALL of the following apply:
-The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site.
-The vehicle door nearest the car seat was not damaged.
-None of the passengers in the vehicle sustained any injuries in the crash.
-If the vehicle has air bags, the air bags did not deploy during the crash; and
-There is no visible damage to the car seat.
ALL seats need to be replaced after a MAJOR accident or if ALL of the criteria for a MINOR accident are not true.

Is your child ready for an adult seat belt?
Heres a 5 step test to find out:
1. Knees bend comfortably with feet resting flat on the floor.
2. Butt is all the way back in the vehicle seat
3. Lap belt sits across the hip bones.
4. Shoulder belt sits across collar bone.
5. Child can sit properly for the entire car ride.
Passing all 5 steps is important to prevent slouching and improper seat belt fit.
