It’s almost back-to-school time!

That means it’s time to schedule your regular piano tuning before piano lessons and music classes start back up.

If your piano hasn’t been tuned in more than a couple years, it may need additional work to get it back to concert pitch. I’ll fix up any sticking keys or pedals that aren’t working.

We’re approaching the hottest days of the year! And that means high humidity as well.

Pianos tend to go out of tune in the summertime. Excess moisture in the air cause the wood components to swell. The soundboard and bridges expand and that increases string tension.

During the summer, it is not unusual for a piano to go sharp in pitch.

Keys and key bushings can also swell and cause keys to stick. I’ll inspect the keyboard, action, and pedals on my visit to make sure everything is in good working order!

It’s highly recommended to have your piano tuned every 6 months to a year! Especially living on the coast with all the temperature fluctuations.

We’re heading into the hottest month of the year. And that means high humidity.

To ensure your piano holds its tuning as long as possible, I highly recommend having a humidity control system installed inside your piano.

To keep your piano in top playing condition, it is essential to service your piano every 6 to 12 months. Waiting longer to tune/service your piano can result in additional work being necessary to get it back in good playing condition.

In addition to tuning your piano, during my visit, I’ll inspect piano components such as pedals, action parts, and the keyboard to ensure everything is functioning properly before I leave.

When shopping around for a used piano, it can be tempting to sn**ch up a Facebook Marketplace piano at a very low price. You should always have the piano inspected by a piano technician first!

Used pianos often come with a host of issues. They usually need repairs, require multiple tunings due to years of neglect, or require action/keyboard regulation. In some cases, the bridges or pinblock may be damaged to the point it requires expensive repairs.

These pianos can be expensive to get back into working order. I can come inspect a piano and help determine whether or not to bring it home!

Remember! Acquiring a piano without having it looked at by a piano technician is like buying a used car without having it inspected by a mechanic first. Buyer beware!
