Pre-K’s Crayon Buddies! We kicked off this project by reading The Crayons Go Back to School and learning about one of the building blocks of art: LINE! Students started by filling their papers with wavy, zigzag, looping, curved, straight, and repeating lines. Then they created their own colorful crayon buddy to add on top. I love how much personality these little crayons have—and how every background is completely unique!

My students love getting a peek at what the other grades are creating. There’s always so much curiosity when they walk by and see what everyone else has been working on.

Our sculpture lessons are starting to take form, and the display is getting more colorful by the day. I love seeing such a wide range of ideas, materials, and techniques come together across grade levels.

I painted this portrait during the COVID years, and it’s been hanging in my classroom ever since—a little reminder of an artist who proved there could never be too many dots, too much color, or too much imagination.

We’re getting ready to dive into a unit exploring Latin American art and culture through bold color, pattern, landscapes, florals, textiles, and mixed media. I can’t wait to see how each grade puts their own spin on these projects!
