IB in Action: How We Express Ourselves.
One of the beauties of the IB curriculum is the way it encourages students to explore big ideas through different perspectives and across disciplines. Our LE and UE students have been diving into the unit “How We Express Ourselves,” making connections between culture, identity, art, and music.
FE students have been exploring different cultures and how they shape who we are through presentations about people from around the world. Building on the idea of identity, UE students are exploring personal aesthetics and creating dioramas of spaces that represent their personalities and interests.
These ideas continue to come to life through Art and Music. In Art, students are exploring the Japanese art of kintsugi and the work of Paul Klee, while in Music, they are discovering how sound can be another powerful form of self-expression.
Through it all, our students are discovering that there are countless ways to express who we are and how we see the world! 🌎

Sparking curiosity across every grade level—from kindergarten through 8th grade—our newly renovated STEM lab is bringing hands-on learning to life during STEM, EcoDiscovery, and science classes.

Our youngest students are taking on cooperative building challenges and beginning their coding journeys with Ozobots. Older students are exploring the science of gravity through engaging, hands-on labs, including the Pringles Ring Challenge, designed and created using our Cricut.

These exciting opportunities are made possible by the generous gifts to the Discovery Fund, which supported the renovation of our STEM lab, the purchase of new equipment, and the redesign of the space. We are so grateful for the investment in our students and their future as curious, creative problem-solvers!

Conservation in Action at The Discovery School! We’re excited to kick off our second year partnering with OCEARCH, a global nonprofit dedicated to shark research, education, and ocean conservation. Through innovative research and collaboration with scientists, OCEARCH helps us better understand sharks and the vital role they play in healthy ocean ecosystems. Our students have the unique opportunity to learn alongside real scientists and experience ocean science firsthand. Students also learned about Contender, the shark we adopted as part of our partnership, and followed his journey as they discovered more about shark research and conservation.

These experiences turn curiosity into stewardship—and help our students see that they can be part of protecting the natural world around them.

We can’t wait to see where this partnership takes our young scientists and conservationists this year!

Please join us in welcoming Charlotte McDonald, our new Discovery Librarian! 📚✨
With seven years of teaching experience—including five years in Montessori education—Charlotte brings a passion for books, creativity, and inquiry. She holds a B.S. in English Education and a Master of Letters in Creative Writing from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Most recently, she worked as an educator at Zoo Atlanta.
Charlotte is excited to inspire our students through stories, literature, art, history, and the natural world. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, writing, sewing, painting, historical costuming, and exploring the outdoors.

Middle School students kicked off the first week of school with energy, connection, and excitement! Along with learning new routines and participating in team-building activities, students jumped into an exciting new lineup of electives designed to spark curiosity and creativity.
This year, students had the opportunity to choose from a variety of engaging subjects, including CSI: Discovery, Graphic Design, Music Production, Creative Writing, and more. These electives give students the chance to explore new interests, develop meaningful skills, and discover talents they may not have known they had.
It’s an exciting start to a year filled with learning, creativity, and new possibilities!

And just like that, it’s the final day of summer camps at The Discovery School! ☀️

We’re so grateful to our incredible summer camp team, teachers, and vendors for creating a summer filled with meaningful learning, creativity, and fun. From cooking, art, and sports to coding, chess, dance, cheer, and so much more, our campers had endless opportunities to explore, grow, and make memories.

Thank you for sharing another amazing summer with us! 💙
