Time to meet our last two competitors going to Nationals in Washington, D.C.!
Meet freshman, Simms Powell and Charlie Belvin!
This is both Simms and Charlies’s first time competing at Nationals! Outside of Speech and debate, Simms is part of APAC Visual Art and Charlie is part of APAC Theatre as well as Thespian Troupe 4909. This year Simms and Charlie will be competing in Public Forum debate. Public forum is a 2 vs. 2 debate on topics centered around current events and students must use both logic and evidence to form a constructive argument.

Meet sophomore, Brooklynn Jefferson!
Brooklynn is a two-time national qualifier! Outside of Speech and Debate, she participates in APAC Theater, Jazz Band, and is part of Thespian Troupe 4909. This year Brooklynn will be competing in Dramatic Performance, which is an interpretation of a memorized speech, usually a script or short story, performed in a 10 minute period.

Meet sophomore, Donald Jordan!
Donald is a two-time national qualifier! Outside of Speech and Debate, he participates in APAC Visual Art and is on the MS Museum of Art Teen Council. This year Donald will be competing in Extemporaneous Speaking. In Extemporaneous Speaking, students pick from three topics about current world policies and give a seven minute speech on one of the topics after preparing for only 30 minutes.

Meet sophomore, Jeremy White!
Jeremy is a two-time national qualifier! Jeremy attends the JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School and Murrah in a dual enrollment program. Outside of Speech and Debate, he is also involved the MS Museum Art Council and Mock Trial. This year Jeremy will be competing in Congressional Debate. Students in Congressional Debate act as mock legislators, debating legislation on real issues that they’ve written in advance of the tournament.

Meet juniors, Twyla Johnson and Anaya Morgan!
This is both Twyla and Anaya’s first time competing at Nationals! Outside of Speech and debate, Anaya is part of Thespian Troupe 4909 and both Anaya and Twyla are Junior editors for the Pleiades Literary Magazine. This year Anaya and Twyla will be competing in Public Forum debate.
