Today, we celebrate Dr. Elizabeth Grenn Franklin as she begins her next chapter: retirement!

While we are incredibly happy for her, saying goodbye is definitely bittersweet. Dr. Franklin has made a lasting impact on the UMMC Doctor of Health Administration Program, the School of Health Related Professions, and the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

We are grateful for her leadership, mentorship, dedication, and the many ways she has helped shape the DHA program and the students and colleagues she has served.

Happy retirement, Dr. Franklin! Thank you for everything. You will be greatly missed! 💙

Supporting our students, one donation at a time. 💙

The DHA team is happy to support UMMC’s new Student Union Food Pantry! We know that student success is about more than what happens in the classroom, and having access to basic necessities can make a real difference. The pantry also provides personal care items, helping students access everyday essentials beyond food.

We have made our donation, and now we are calling on our UMMC colleagues to join us. Let’s turn a few donations into a well-stocked pantry for our students!

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Korpiel (Class of 2016) on his retirement after many years of leadership in health care.

Dr. Korpiel retired in 2025 after eight years as president and CEO of Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Sacramento, California. His career also includes serving as market president of Dignity Health Sacramento and as chief operating officer at both UMMC and St. Vincent’s Health System in Birmingham, Alabama.

We are proud to count him among our DHA alumni and celebrate all he has accomplished throughout his career!

We are proud to celebrate the publication of their article, “Knowledge, Culture, and Communication in HIV Prevention: A Mixed-Methods Study of Nurse Practitioners’ Roles in Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Uptake in Rural and Underserved Areas,” in the AIDS Education and Prevention Journal.

This timely research explores the role of nurse practitioners in PrEP uptake and the broader factors that influence HIV prevention in rural and underserved communities.

It is always exciting to see our faculty and DHA alumni sharing their expertise and making a difference in health care.
