Jackson Public Schools is committed to creating focused learning environments where students can be fully engaged throughout the school day.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Michigan law requires public school districts to implement a wireless communications device policy that prohibits student use of wireless communication devices during instructional time. Districts may also adopt additional restrictions.

In response to this requirement, JPS will implement our districtwide Off and Away expectations across elementary, middle, and high schools. Cell phones, earbuds, and headphones should be turned off and stored away from the first bell until dismissal, including during instructional time, hallways, and lunch.

As we get ready to welcome students back for the 2026–27 school year, families are encouraged to review their school’s bus arrival, start, half-day dismissal, and regular dismissal times.

📚 The first day of school is Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and it will be a HALF DAY for students.

Please take a moment to check the schedule for your child’s building so you know when school begins and what time students will be dismissed on that first day.

🌱 Ready, Set, Grow! Kindergarten Kickoff Camp Registration Is Still Open! 🌱

There is still time to register your incoming kindergarten student for 2026 Kindergarten Kickoff Camp at Jackson Public Schools!

Kickoff Camp helps children become familiar with their school, meet staff members, practice daily routines and feel more confident before their first day of kindergarten.

Parkside’s 2026 6th Grade Step Forward program will be held August 10 & 11 from 8:00 AM–12:00 PM at Middle School at Parkside. This is a great chance for incoming 6th graders to meet staff and get a head start on the school year.

Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided.
