Dr. Geraldine Q. Young is an experienced, productive doctoral-prepared Family Nurse Practitioner, Certified Diabetes Educator, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties Leadership (NONPF) Fellow, and now, Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). Dr. Young is on a mission to promote the health and well-being of all indivduals. Dr. Young is a native Mississippian and has graduated from several schools of nursing throughout the course of her career: Mississippi Delta Community College (Associate Degree in Nursing), University of Mississippi Medical Center (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), Alcorn State University (Masters of Science in Nursing), and University of Alabama at Birmingham (Doctor of Nursing Practice). Dr. Young began practicing locally (Jackson, MS) as a family nurse practitioner in 2005 with a focus on primary care and wellness in addition to diabetes care and management. Dr. Young also served as an assistant professor at Alcorn State University for 7 years. She is expanding this area of expertise to Kentucky State University as the Director for Graduate Nursing Programs and Associate Professor of Nursing, with plans of collaborating with fellow Mississippi colleagues to advance the nursing profession. Dr. Young has committed her life to serving the people of Mississippi and surrounding areas, focusing on preventative care, family medicine, and education. Dr. Young’s goal is to provide access to safe, affordable, high quality healthcare services to all individuals across the life span in addition to meeting the educational needs of students (e.g., clinical, research, etc.) and mentoring needs of fellow nursing professionals to ensure competency, essentially improving patient outcomes. Dr. Young believes in excellence when it comes to patient care and education. Dr. Young has lectured extensively on the topic of quality improvement, diabetes and obesity prevention. Locally, Dr. Young has published articles in Jackson Free Press, Boom Jackson, and Jackson Advocate. She has also published nationally in the Endocrinology Advisor and HelioFamilyMedicine.com. Dr. Young has also coordinated and participated in countless healthcare initiatives and community service events throughout Mississippi, the southeast region, and now Kentucky.
