Shayla is one of several students who visited and worked at the Heritage Center today. She is fabulous, and she organized our new sewing display..
We will have many hands at work next week.
Sewing has always been such an important American ritual , and our students will be practicing all forms of it in our Dr. Crockett project under the loving guidance of our Barb Markowski.

What a wonderful afternoon we had spending the day with Cameron and Jen at the Jackson Commercial Exchange Building! Cameron recently purchased this historic building and has many ideas about how to share its history. Jen is an artist and much more, and she kindly detailed the nooks and crannies of the old industrial building… and we loved every minute of it!

This was the site where Captain Sparks ran his business and built cars and other Jackson known products. This is a space where workers came early in the 20th century and manufactured items that would be sent all over the country. Cameron allowed us to explore, and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Our beautiful students enjoyed the day with him and Jen, and we will not soon forget their kindness.
We have so much unique history in Jackson County, and it’s refreshing to see young entrepreneurs sacrificing and working to bring our fabulous history to the forefront.

Our Heritage Student students and Writing Fellows are back at it! We are organizing our space to finish our quilts. We added a few more artifacts to help tell the stories of Jackson and its great people.

We were away for a couple of weeks, and I will explain why soon, but for now I thought I would share photos of our beautiful students who have giving hearts and are ready to roll up their sleeves to see this important story told.

We had two more days of working on our project. We are purposely not showing the work in progress so that it is more of a surprise to the family when we unveil it..
These students took time out of their busy summer to come to JC and make small changes on our quilts. We mostly took the day today to laugh and catch up and enjoy one another..

We are taking our time with this Dr. Crockett project. We want to do our best. 😊🌸🌸🌸

Our Mackenzie visited us today in the Heritage Center. She is one of our founding members and an alumni of Jackson College. She led the charge on many of our projects and now she is coming back to interact with our new students and to continue the good work of telling stories of Jackson heroes,

Our Olivia came and worked on our third quilt. She is so fabulous and reminds us of Mackenzie. Both demonstrate leadership and kindness and dedication and consistency.

Barb Markowski is so kind and she is teaching with young women the art of quilting and sewing with patients and love. ❤️

We have many photos of these fabulous women working hard today, but if I share them, it would expose the beautiful quilts we are making, and we want to keep that a secret until we do our big reveal.

Please keep watching and commenting and sharing and supporting these beautiful students as they tell the stories of those who came before.

We accomplished much today in the HC! Look at our beautiful volunteer students working away on their individual tasks that our fabulous Barb Markowski put forth. More and more the beautiful quilts are coming to life. Dr. Crockett’s family is our focus with special attention paid to five strong women.

We had visitors today at the Heritage Center. Mr. Matt Walsh and Dr. Altrice Brown stopped by to say hello to the students and to see our fabulous project. Our Asa brought her friend Alex, and we quickly adopted him into our group. Sofia brought our Jasmine. … we have missed her very much. .

It was such a beautiful day….. We are almost done with the first quilt.. each one will be different and will be a testimony to the strong women who faced hardship and trials…. who never gave up… and who were fierce in their love of family and drive to make the world a better place.

Such a fine team we have working on our Dr. Crockett project! Their creativity is off the charts and the respect they have for the story is touching.

What a beautiful evening! Our very own Emily Mast received the Zennith Pond recognition at our Honors Banquet this evening. This is an appropriate award for our Emily as she was one of our early leaders in the Heritage Center! Her list of accomplishments are a testimony to her giving heart. She is an academic powerhouse and the best of the best in all she does.

It has been my great honor to watch this beautiful young lady grow from a teenager to a confident lieader in our county and our state.

I’m looking forward to seeing the next chapters in her life…. What an honor it’s been knowing her and working alongside her.

And our new Writing Fellows were gracious enough to come and help honor their alumni!

And very importantly, we had the Pond family and the Crockett family visit our heritage center… all in all it was a fabulous night!
