This tiger, Adetokunbo "Toks" Omishakin, M.A., is blazing trails in the state of California as he was selected by the Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency. Making history continues to be our habit among the graduates of the department of urban and regional planning at Jackson State University.
Everyone say congrats to Adetokunbo “Toks” Omishakin! California Govenor Gavin Newsom recently appointed Omishakin Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA).
Omishakin, 44, makes history as the first African American to serve in that cabinet-level position responsible for overseeing all state agencies that regulate and support transportation and administer services related to the sector.

JSU Severe Weather Alert Update: Severe weather is predicted to reach the Jackson Metro area by Wednesday afternoon, which may include flash flooding, damaging wind, and severe thunderstorms. Classes will be held virtually for the day. Non-essential staff are expected to work from home beginning at 12 pm CDT on Wednesday. If you have not been deemed as essential by your supervisor, please vacate for your safety.
Dining services will be available from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Heritage Dining Hall.
The Legacy Food Court and Starbucks will be closed today.
JSU Postal Services and the JSU Campus Store will be available today from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The recent investiture of President Thomas K. Hudson, J.D., of Jackson State University featured several days of engaging campus activities. On one of those days, a new activity was introduced highlighting an Inauguration Research Symposium where faculty, staff, and students could showcase their cutting-edge research.
Dr. Berneece Herbert, Department of Urban and Regional Planning chair and associate professor, along with Jeran Herbert and Tabaris Smith, DURP Ph.D. students, submitted a poster discussing their research. The title of the poster was "Perspectives on Community Wellbeing in an Urban Environment: Challenges and opportunities for the City of Jackson."
