Multistate outbreaks of salmonella linked to contact with baby poultry
Michigan health officials are warning residents about growing multistate salmonella outbreaks linked to handling backyard chicks and ducklings. Michigan has reported 21 cases. Officials urge thorough handwashing, keeping poultry outdoors and limiting contact for young children, older adults and immunocompromised people.

Visitor restrictions to protect from respiratory illnesses
Due to the current rise in respiratory illnesses across Michigan, we’re implementing temporary visitor restrictions systemwide, effective immediately. Here’s what you need to know:
Patients are limited to two visitors over the age of 12, except for extenuating circumstances, like end of life.
No sibling visitors are allowed in the NICU or Special Care Nurseries.
Visitors are encouraged to practice hand hygiene.
Masking is recommended in areas where severely immunocompromised patients receive care.
Visitors who have fever or respiratory symptoms will not be permitted to enter the facility.
