Continuing our look back at JA Raider Football's championship legacy.

Today's spotlight: the 2001 State Championship

2001 (9-3) — This title was the first of four state crowns for Coach Joey Hawkins. The season was powered by Rob Cannon, who turned in the 2nd best rushing total in program history — 1,746 yards and 14 TDs.

JA dropped three games that season, but got the last word where it mattered most — a rematch with Jackson Prep in the Title Game. The Raiders escaped with a 12-7 defensive slugfest, punctuated by two goal-line stands from the JA defense to seal it. This would also begin a bridge to five straight appearances in the Title Game for the Raiders.

Congratulations are in order for these Accents for being named to the All-Star Spirit Squad. They will be recognized tomorrow around 11:30am during the Spirit Competition and will have the opportunity to perform during half times of the All-Star Football games on December 4th at Jackson Prep.

Congratulations are in order for these Varsity Cheerleaders for being named to the All-Star Spirit Squad. TWO BASEBALL CAMPS COMING UP!!!

Fall All Skills Baseball Camp
Tuesday, September 29
5:30 pm- 8:30 pm
1st-6th Grade
$65

This camp will teach the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting, base running, and positional play under the lights of Raider Park.

Hitting Under The Lights Hitting Camp
Tuesday, October 13
5:30 pm- 8:30 pm
1st-6th Grade
$65

This specialty camp is designed for players that are interested in improving their hitting skills in a concentrated, skill specific environment. Hitters will have the opportunity to hit on the field under the lights of Raider Park and participate in development drills.

No game this week, but we're not resting. This week we are taking a look back at JA Raider Football's championship legacy!

Today's spotlight: the two seasons that started it all — 1995 & 1996.

1995 (11-2) — In just the program's 16th year of existence, JA claimed its first-ever State Championship, a tribute to Coach Sherard Shaw and a landmark moment for Raider football.

1996 (11-1) — The Raiders were back-to-back champs, guided by Coach David Blount. After suffering their only loss of the season to Prep, JA got revenge in the biggest way possible — beating them 14-7 in the Title Game to repeat as State Champions.

Two titles. Two years. A legacy that started here.

These three Raiders were selected to the 2026 All-Mississippi Gridiron Team which is comprised of all of the MHSAA and MAIS Teams and narrowed down to three teams of offense and defense (26 per team). Congrats to Caden Moss (First Team-OL), PJ Evans (Third Team-OL), and Rett Robinson (Third Team-P) for this big honor.

Congratulations to the JA Swim Team on a fantastic showing at the Jackson Prep Invitational! Walter Towery had a standout meet, taking 1st place in both the 100 Free and the 100 Breast. Chase Ory also turned in strong performances, placing 3rd in the 200 IM and 4th in the 100 Breast.

Our Elementary swimmers were in action too, competing in a dual meet against St. Augustine and Parklane with several top-5 finishes across the board.

Great job to everyone who competed — proud of these teams!
