Sometimes when you're learning how to train a horse it can get a little frustrating especially for the human. In this case we took away the horse so that the learning wouldn't effect the horse and the human could get the idea into her head without feeling guilty! So here's how we do it here! I'm a woman of many talents! 😆 🤣

We had the vet out today to see Rusty. It's official, Rusty is blind in his right eye. So now he's our very own pirate! 🤗

Had a wonderful morning with Jess helping in the barn this morning, she did the grooming whilst I mucked out. She got busy with her phone too! 😆

It's been a huge day today for our very own Charley the mare! Charley hasn't been in a horse trailer since we got her 4 years ago. Yesterday I introduced her to loading. It was quite the dance and panic for her....especially with her boy (Bosley)watching from the paddock. She managed to put one foot in and then after that with a lot of tooing and frowing I managed to get her upto the back with her head in and left it there.
This afternoon we moved trailer so that the step isn't as big. It took 2 attempts with the flag to get her in, then 2 more times she followed me in un assisted. I haven't managed to get her to back off of it, but I did have her slow down and stop before she jumped of the back! I reckon that's a win win in my book. Thanks to hubby for his assistance, hoping that we've made him redundant for this task in the future! We're going to keep practicing further away from the hill so that she gets the big step to get on the back! Happy tales from YFRS! 🐴🐎😀

Oh what a big day for Keith the Keifer Built Horse trailer! Today he got taken to Richfield Service to get his tires changed for the first time since we bought him new back in 2003! Then he was brought home for a really good clean up! He's all fresh and ready now! Here's to another 21 years Keith! 😀

What a great day today! It was a huge day for one of my clients. After over two years of recuperation after a torn ligament in this horse' hind leg. He loaded on his mums new trailer and arrived here at YFRS for a steady introduction back to work. He did amazing and we were all very happy. Here's the icing on the cake....this horse in the photo was born at the same barn as Charley and they are a similar age. Cousins at YFRS meeting up for the first time in 13 years! That's pretty out there! 😀 Also if you want to bring your horse for a lesson at YFRS, let me know! 😀

Get a cuppa .....Here's a funny thing that happened this week on the farm....We headed out to do evening feeds, it's still good daylight and as I walked down the barn and looked out through the tops of the door to the shelter end and further through to the chicken shed area...I'm frowning because something isn't right? I get further down and see Rusty the Horse's butt sticking out of the chicken shed door! I walk in and tell him to get out and so he backed up, then ( I forgot to close the door to the shelter end) Charley the mare comes stepping down into the chicken area! I shut the door to the chicken shed, Charley skips over to where Rusty is, around his side then hops back up into the shelter end, then Rusty followed. I shut the door then checked inside the chicken shed because I was more worried about how much chicken feed they'd eaten. I opened the door, the feeders didn't look bad, then I looked to my left...there was a horse poo dumped against the wall hitting one of the waterers! There's only one horse that always poos at the wall......Yes you got it....Bosley must have been the instigater who undid the unlocked latch, got in the chicken shed for a nosey, turned and dumped then came back into the shelter! There's only 31 year old Tipper who didn't get in on the escapade! It's never dull at Yorkshire Farm!
