Hattiesburg Kappa League got the chance to support the Ivy Pearls in their come out show with their new members

Last Wednesday our Kappa Leaguers spent the day spreading a little joy for 🌹

With roses in hand, they moved through the halls offering flowers to a few young ladies and some phenomenal teachers—simple gestures to show love, respect, and appreciation.

Moments like these remind us that chivalry, kindness, and gratitude are more than words—they’re habits of heart. And these young men are learning that true leadership starts with how you serve and honor others.

Yesterday I had the honor of bringing some of my Kappa Leaguers to service at for their Community Day. 🙏🏾

I can’t tell you how proud I was to see these young brothers take a pew beside me. As their Guide Right Director, I’ve challenged them with something we’re calling . There are enough of us to fill an entire pew multiple times over, so once a month we’ll gather in worship together to attempt to do just that.

The idea is simple: before we invite others in, we prove to ourselves the importance of fellowship, worship, and accountability. Once we’ve built that rhythm, then we’ll invite our friends and community to join us in the practice.

It’s not about impressing. It’s about proving. It’s about growing. It’s about building young men who know that faith and fellowship are part of leadership too.

We talk all day about the black men and boys who are struggling to find themselves, but what about the black men and boys who check all the boxes and move righteously in the face of a world that would have them hold their head down?

This weekend I had the distinct pleasure of watching .el be presented to his school, his chapter, and the world as a man of Kappa and I couldn’t be more proud. Joel was one of the first students I had the pleasure of overseeing in the program and I would always tell him that to be so young and never do the bare minimum, always give his best, always take on challenges, and always strive to achieve in every field of human endeavor was something that needed to be acknowledged.

Respectful? Check✅
Grades? Graduated Salutatorian with an Associates degree ✅
“Home training” as black folks say? His parents couldn’t have done a better job. ✅

He and (also pictured) KNEW they were the standard and often times I’m hard on myself because I’ve lost so many of my boys to the system, and my wife has to remind me of diamonds like these two, and .el I couldn’t be more proud.

I remember when we would meet in my classroom to work on your shoulders, and I would also tell you that there was a version of you that already had it down, that already was a Nupe and all you had to do was keep walking upright like you have, and now look at you. Shining like a diamond.

As I continue to try my best to steer a new group of Kappa Leaguers into the fold, I just want to thank you for being proof of concept, and I’m so glad you “completed the mission.”

Today we were blessed to have Dr. Steven Cunningham come to speak with us regarding the first phase of Kappa League: Self Identity/Purpose—Discipline, Assurance, Awareness, and Appearance.
