We are partnering with BirtleBee, a native plant nursery out of Concord, to provide you low-cost native plants. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the JCCD for general operational funds, just like our Spring Tree Fundraisers!

Also, mark your calendars for a FREE NATIVE PLANT INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP - BirtleBee owner Jennifer Shirk, MS, MSW, will facilitate a 60-minute workshop on August 22 from 12 - 1 PM at the Grand River Farmers Market! During this workshop, Jennifer will give an overview of the benefits of planting native plants and how to get started.

During this year’s Spring Tree Fundraiser, we had ~20 native plant species available. This time we have over 60!! If you purchase from our website, you will be able to pick up your plants at the Plants & Pints festival at the Grow Jackson Farm Stop / Old Armory on September 26th, at 137 W North St, Jackson, MI 49202.

Last Saturday we visited four sites to see what macroinvertebrates were in the water. Aquatic insects and other small animals living in the river tell us about the quality of the water. When it is good, some like to hang around. When it gets bad, they leave!

Spring cleaning and finding some toxic materials that you don't need/want any more? Take them to the JCCD's hazardous waste collection on May 21. Prior registration required (so they know how much they are getting!).

Windy but sunny Earth Day celebration at Cascades Park on Sunday in Jackson. Thanks to the The Dahlem Environmental Education Center for lending us their stormwater model. We had fun with participants encouraging them how to help keep only rain going down the drain!
