Norton's Isshin-Ryu Karate - Jackson Okinawan Karate Inc Isshin-Ryu Karate school with 40+ years of history in the Jackson, MI area.

We will be creating a new page soon to accurately reflect our current location and facilities. The existing page doesn't seem to accept revisions.

As of Sunday, 12/21/25, the new address of the dojo is 950 W Monroe St, Jackson, Michigan 49202. I've tried several times to edit this page information and Facebook is having "temporary" problems that prevent the update.

Exciting news!

I know it's been a while, but our dojo is moving to a new site.

Beginning Sunday, December 21st, we'll begin classes at our new dojo at 950 W Monroe St., Jackson, MI 49202; Ste B.

We're excited to be sharing a dojo with Superior Karate again.

Thirty some-odd years ago, we invited them to share training space with us. They've returned the favor, and brought us into their home.

Look for the "Jackson Okinawan Budokan" sign out front. Parking, and entrance are around back. No changes to the existing schedule. Normal class times: Tuesday 6:30-8:30; Thursday 6:30-8:30; Sunday 10am-12pm.

They have done a lot to make this a dojo worth training in, and we're honored to share their home with them.

We're getting ready for the Seminar on 6-13-25!

In years past, we've held a Dojo Cleaning Night about a week before the event. In this second year that we're going to host the seminar in my pole barn at 5701 Kibby Rd, Jackson MI, we're going to hold Sunday class on 6-8 at my address. We might be using less Windex than we had in days of old, and more brooms, but there's still as much work to be done.

All are invited to attend. Please expect to get a little dirty.

We're hoping for a great turnout this year.

We'll make sure there's plenty to drink, and a pizza or three for those that show!

Thank you to the dozen or so of you who showed up to today's class and honored the memories of Ric Sawyer. It was especially nice to hear everybody's memories of his humor, his help in the dojo, his conversation and his guitar playing. We toasted Ric with some Four Roses bourbon. R. I. P. Ric Sawyer. R.
