Jackson State University

The Jackson State University Division of Institutional Advancement, along with the JSU Development Foundation, has named Jennifer Clark, MBA, as executive director of the JSU Development Foundation.

In her new role, Clark will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Foundation that works to secure tax-deductible donations for student scholarships and other institutional priorities.

JSU’s Office of Community Engagement won statewide recognition for its efforts to preserve the cemetery's sacred history. The university’s Mt. Olive Cemetery community engagement project was officially honored with an Award of Merit for Rehabilitation by the Mississippi Humanities Council and America250.

: Jackson State University has named Preselfannie E. Whitfield McDaniels, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, following her service in the interim role since May 15, 2025.

A professor of English in the College of Liberal Arts and longtime faculty member, McDaniels brings more than 25 years of higher education experience to JSU’s chief academic role.

: Jackson State University has appointed Carlos D. Wilson, Ph.D., as dean of the Division of Graduate Studies. Wilson has served as interim dean since May 2025 and previously served as associate dean of Graduate Studies.

A three-time JSU graduate, Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree in 2004, a master’s degree in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education in 2012. He is a tenured associate professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and brings more than 20 years of academic and administrative experience to the role.
