JSU Tiger Knights hosted an MSCA Scholastic Chess tournament on Saturday.

First African-American in Chess Hall of Fame Maurice Ashley started playing chess at the age of 14, and by 33, he became the first African-American to achieve the title of Grandmaster. And now – he is the first African -American to be inducted into the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame.(April 15)

JSU Tiger Knights officers and advisors met today to think about events in Spring and Fall of 2016. We intend to meet more regularly this Spring with more "skittles" games (unrated) on campus. We will also schedule some rated tournaments and will host a scholastic tournament again this Spring with MSCA. JSU Tiger Knights' next meeting will be on Monday at 3 in the Student Center, first floor.

A year ago, in December 2014, JSU Tiger Knights held a small unrated tournament (picture below). In Fall 2015, we have held three rated tournaments and just co-hosted a scholastic tournament with Mississippi Scholastic Chess Association, with 34 players in grades K-12.
