Join the Amador/Calaveras/Tuolumne UC Master Food Preservers on Wednesday, March 25th from 7pm to 8:30pm for an evening of "make and take" hands-on sauerkraut. Expect to take home your very own jar of sauerkraut and instructions on monitoring the fermentation process. This class is being held at the County GSA Building, 12200B Airport Road in Jackson. Bring an apron and be ready to tie back your hair and get your hands messy. There is a $20 prepayment required with no refunds. To register, go to

Are you someone who loves to cook, is interested in food preservation and has a desire to share that love with your community? Consider joining the UC Master Food Preservers of Amador/Calaveras/Tuolumne Counties.

There will be a live online question and answer session on Thursday, November 20th from 6:30-7:30. Classes start in January 2026 and are held remotely over Zoom, with some in-person labs occurring on Saturdays at the General Service Administration office in Jackson, CA. The UC Master Food Preserver program application is available following the orientation and is due on November 23rd.

Volunteers had a blast sharing ideas and exploring different methods they could pair with ingredients available during each season. As our honored guest you'll learn to prepare, preserve, and serve a delicious Italian-inspired meal consisting of crostini topped with your own bruschetta and creamy homemade mozzarella. Next comes fresh pasta served with your own preserved herbed tomato sauce and vibrant pesto. The finale is a refreshing, elegant frozen Italian ice to complete the meal.
