Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an early childhood parent education and family support program
designed to help all parents give their children the best possible start in life. PAT provides parents with:
 Personal home visits for families with children ages pre-natal to kindergarten entry
 Developmental information for all domains of development including: motor, language, cognitive & social emotio

nal
 Developmental screenings including vision and hearing
 Group meetings – social connections between families and the school (fun for the whole family!)
 Resource referrals to help assist with family’s needs

When a program is implemented in a community, everyone benefits:
1. PAT parents are more involved in their children’s schooling, which is highly related to a
child’s success in school
3. PAT parents are more confident in their parenting skills and knowledge. They also read
more to their children, a key factor in preparing children for school
4. In early elementary years, PAT children score higher on standardized measures of
reading, math and language
5. The school district develops good relationships with parents from the beginning and enrolls better-prepared children. PAT is a free service offered through all Missouri public school districts. Each district offers their own free services. If you are not in the Jackson R-2 School District, please contact your
local school district for a PAT program near you. To enroll in the Jackson R-2 PAT program, call the Early Childhood Center at East Elementary School at 243-5347 or complete the form on the next page and mail it to:

Enrollment for the Parents as Teachers 2025-2026 school year is OPEN!!
The Parents as Teachers program believes that parents are the first and most important teachers in their child’s life. A child’s first classroom is their home. To support parents in giving their child the best start possible, we provide services for families with children ages prenatal through kindergarten entry in the Jackson R2 School District. We are a FREE program open to any family in the school district.
Visits take place in the home or at East Elementary Early Childhood Center. Visits are typically 1 time per month for 60 minutes, but can vary depending on the needs of the child and family. If you have any questions, please call the Early Childhood office at (573) 243-5347.
If you would like to enroll in the Parents as Teachers program, please fill out this form and a Parent Educator will be in contact with you to set up the first visit.

Please complete a separate enrollment form for EACH child ages 0-5.

Today, Mrs. Keely Martin reached a huge milestone! She has been a parent educator with our Parents as Teachers program for 25 years!
She has been through lots of changes with the program, but one thing remains the same: her love for the children!

It’s time to celebrate our Parents as Teachers home visitors! These ladies work tirelessly every week to visit homes in the JR-2 district. They provide education to parents on child development, act as a resource liaison within our community, and help prepare our littlest of learners with a leg up before they enter preschool or Kindergarten! We are so thankful for the care, compassion, and knowledge that they pour into our district. Front to back are Jennie Pehle, Cathlin Hayes, Jill Hadler, Kristi Macharia, Keely Martin, and Heidi Crowden.
