Big Life Update from Midtown Art House!

We had every intention of making a sweet and art-filled return this summer, but big news - our family is moving!

We are making big changes to kick our family’s debt to the curb, and part of that process for us is to sell our house. The birthplace of MAH! We feel all the things about it, but are mostly so hopeful for the good this move will bring our family.

We had some great plans for this summer, and are a bit sad to let those go, but I’m just stashing them away for now 😉 Thank you all for coming along on this journey with us and for your excitement about making art together.

In the meantime, check out these other local making spaces!

- for adult maker classes
- for adult collage art classes
- .crc for art recyclables

Another Midtown Art House party in the books! This party was all things cheetah! We made animal key rings and necklaces with painted beads, jungle cat art pieces using block prints, watercolor, chalk and oil pastels, and decorated wearable big cat costumes! Happy birthday, Maggie!

It has been so sweet to channel all the Midtown Art House energy into these monthly storytime gatherings for . If you’re a mama with kiddos ages 2-4 and are free Monday mornings, consider popping by Mommy + Me! There is a storytime, snack, and story-inspired craft. Our first one of the year is tomorrow featuring Lloyd Moss’ “Zin! Zin! Zin! a Violin” and some very musical crafts! 🎶 Event link in stories.

Hey friends!! We’ve had so many reach out and ask if we’re doing classes this summer - which has been humbling and so appreciated! We LOVED last summer but just won’t be able to do them again this summer. We’ll miss having your sweet and creative kiddos in our classes! There is one chance to grab a private children’s art class for 6 that will be included in the ’s silent auction going live on Monday! Look for the Arts & Crafts basket to bid ☺️ Happy summer to you all!

Adult Art Class / PART I / Wow, wow, wow. What an amazing night we had with our first ever Adult Art Class and last MAH class of the summer! We eased into making by participating in our Artist Trading Card swap and then shifted our focus to color theory instruction by .wolfzorn.artist. Her giftedness not only to make original, beautiful art of her own but to also lead others towards greater art appreciation and our deep connectedness to it blew us away. Thank you, Abby, for inviting us into your process and helping us to more deeply connect to the creative spaces in each of us. You are a true treasure. A big, big thanks to for allowing us to use their amazing space for our last event hurrah! We can’t wait to see all the magic that will continue to happen in that space. And last, but never least, thank you to 👑 for taking these amazing photos. So grateful to all our participants for making this last class such a sweet one!

Ok, I know I say this every time, but today’s class was SO FUN! Today was all about shape and line and these kiddos jumped right in with these Sandra Silberzweig inspired chalk pastel portraits. First we drew our outline taking time to observe her style and the way she accentuates particular features of the face. Then we used chalk pastels to color one side of the face with a warm palette and the other side with a cool palette. They chalked to their hearts content and then once they had finished, began to blend in their colors revealing rich, deep tones and their original outline underneath. To finish up our class, we made blind continuous contour drawings of each other! No looking at the page, keeping the marker on the page the whole time they drew. The drawing was given to the subject to finish off with watercolor paint. Lots of giggles with these! I tried to convince everyone to let me keep them all, but they wouldn’t budge ☺️

It’s so hard to believe we only have one week of classes left for the summer 😳😩🥳🤗 Here’s to finishing sweet and strong with Monday’s Little Makers and Friday’s adult class!

The Artist Trading Cards everyone’s made all summer long hang in our living room, waiting for each new class to add and take away. Every time I pass it I notice a new one! Like this gem I juuuust discovered by Anna Clare, made a few weeks ago. Love this one, .tilly! Just gonna start sending these beauties directly to 😆
