Congratulations to Boggess Dairy Farm in Peterstown, WV, on earning 1st place in the Ensiled Cereal Forage Division of the 2026 World Forage Analysis Superbowl!

Their ensiled triticale came in with an impressive Relative Forage Quality (RFQ) of 186 and Crude Protein (CP) of 17.95% — a great example of the high-quality forage being grown here in West Virginia.

Congratulations to the Boggess family on this well-deserved recognition! We’re proud to see West Virginia forage represented on the national stage.

We’ve had a great couple of days in Sutton, WV, for the WVU Extension Central West Virginia Grazing School!

From hands-on, experiential learning to great conversations in the field, participants had the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and take practical strategies back to their own farms.

A big thank you to Braxton County Extension and the Elks Conservation District for hosting us and helping make this grazing school a success! We appreciate everyone who joined us and contributed to two great days of learning and discussion.

Looking for ways to reduce production costs, improve pasture productivity and graze livestock longer? The Central WV Grazing School is scheduled for September 11-12 at Elk Conservation District on Airport Road in Sutton. Attending the Grazing School will improve your knowledge and skills related to grazing with both classroom and hands-on opportunities. During the Grazing School, you'll learn more about temporary fencing and providing water to grazing livestock, forage budgeting, developing a grazing plan, understanding the cost of hay production, soil testing and fertility, stocking rates, nutrient management and more! Space is limited. The two-day school is $25 and includes lunch and take-home materials and supplies to enhance your grazing management. The GRASS Application is Open! Apply Now! 🌾🍀🌾🍀

We are excited to announce that the Grazing for Appalachian Sustainability (GRASS) Project is accepting applications! The GRASS project provides beef and sheep farmers with educational and technical assistance, and financial incentives to support the continuation of or transition to sustainable pasture management on working lands and expand existing markets.

You can find more information about the project and a link to the application at extension.wvu.edu/GRASS. The application deadline is September 15th!
