ITHACA — The Yellowjackets were firing on all cylinders Friday night, rolling past Saginaw Valley Lutheran 48-7.
Ithaca jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and never looked back, piling up 385 yards of total offense while holding the Chargers scoreless through three quarters.
Quarterback Gibson Rondy was nearly perfect, completing 16 of 18 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Greyson Merchant hauled in five receptions for 97 yards and two scores, while Connor McMurphy added five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Harper Merchant led the ground attack with 62 yards and two touchdowns, while Michael Sheler provided the defensive highlight with a spectacular 100-yard interception return for a touchdown.
"Very proud of the way our players played tonight," Ithaca head coach Jordan Hessbrook said. "They had a good week of practice and were able to execute on the things they needed to be successful. We'll need to turn the page quickly and get back to work in preparing to play a very good Fowler team next week."
And that's where things get interesting.
With the convincing victory behind them, the Yellowjackets now turn their attention to a much tougher challenge against Fowler in Week 8.
