Hi All! Winter Wonderland: Mardi Gras is approaching fast this Friday! Tickets are on sale now, press call of action button to find eboard members on campus. Tickets are in e-tickets format. $3 for each ticket, all proceeds are being forwarded to the Flint Water Crisis. When you buy a ticket we will collect your name, student ID # , and email so we may forward you your tickets! Please feel free to call or comment under this post to buy your tickets!
Hey everybody come out to ASA and Sister 2 Sister's discussion about Black Feminism, and the portrayal of Black Women in the media.
They will be discussing topics such as Black women in the workplace, assimilation and professionalism, notions around beauty and the colorism problematic. They will also discuss black women in the media (i.e. Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Lupita Nyong’o and Kerry Washington, etc.), the rise of T Swift, Iggy, Miley as well as young black female sisterhood!
the amazing panelists are:
Yeni Ropo-Tusin, a graduate student in the Physical Therapy Program and the amazing former President of ASA,
Candace King, an MLK Scholar, Madiba Legacy Ambassador and senior Journalism Major in the Park School of Communications,
Dr. Nia Makepeace, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at Ithaca College. Dr. Nia actively explores topics related to race, gender, power, privilege, oppression, and the different human responses in social structures,
and
Dr. Noliwe Rooks, Associate professor in Africana Studies and Feminist, Gender, Sexuality Studies at Cornell University. An interdisciplinary scholar, she works on the racial implications of beauty, fashion and adornment; racial inequality in education; race, migration and urbanization and Black women's studies.
The discussion will be moderated by a special guest moderator, Dr. Peyi Soyinka-Airewele, a Professor of African and International Politics with interests in the fields of socio-political memory, the politics of disaster, critical development theory, human rights and the politics of African Cinema. Her current research engages the socio-political discourses of popular African cinema and their fluid interpretations of transforming identities and issues in global and local spaces.
This discussion will be in Emerson A at 7PM

This Thursday at 7 PM, is ELECTIONS for the African Latino Society. Come to the ALS room prepared with a speech if you are planning on running and your support. Before IC Caribbean Students Association (CSA) will be having their ELECTIONS as well at 6, so come in and support them as well.
