Our inaugural Global Start Cantabria cohort is thriving as they begin their first academic year at Cornell, living and learning in Santander, Spain, at the Universidad de Cantabria! 🐻 🌏

This week, Liane Fitzgerald and Ryan Delaney from our Engineering Advising office visited Santander to connect with the students, help them develop their academic plans, and support them as they embark on this exciting new chapter.

Dean Lynden Archer, Cornell President Michael I. Kotlikoff, Cornell Provost Kavita Bala, and other community members participated in an honorary beam signing as construction continues on Duffield Hall, which will create a new state-of-the-art home for our School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and critical new lab space for quantum engineering and other research priorities.

“Every single one of you is here, because we saw something special in you that meant you belonged at Cornell,” President Michael I. Kotlikoff told the nearly 4,300 first-year and transfer students who, with their families, gathered August 18 at Schoellkopf Field for New Student Convocation.

“So if at some point in the months ahead, when you’re wrestling with a problem set or a paper, and you start to wonder if maybe somebody in Admissions made a mistake – I can tell you right now, they did not,” Kotlikoff said. “You are a Cornellian. And this is where you belong.”
