Ithaca College established the Gerontology Institute in 1992 to serve as a campus and community resource.

The Institute offers a major and a minor in aging studies and offers training for professionals in health and aging services.

Huge congratulations to Lucy Walker, IC Aging Studies minor/OT major, for earning the 2024 Undergraduate Student Paper Award at the NY State Society on Aging annual scientific meeting in Saratoga Springs, NY. Lucy presented her research on wisdom conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Mary Ann Erickson.

Speaker highlights bias against larger-bodied individuals in long-term care Jennifer Muniak, assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Geriatrics and Aging at the University of Rochester, gave a talk titled “One Size Fits None” on Sept. 5. The talk focused on widespread bias toward larger-bodied individuals in long-term care.
