Getting paid to conduct research, create art, and explore big ideas during the summer? That’s exactly what our Summer Scholars in the School of Humanities and Sciences are doing.

From your first summer at IC to your last, you can work alongside faculty mentors and turn your curiosity into meaningful work.

Catherine Murphy ‘27 and Alex Ostriak ‘27, mentored by ICNL Reserve Manager and Professor Jake Brenner, are helping scout and connect the Longview Trail to the IC Natural Lands trail by installing benches and signage to make the community trail system more accessible and welcoming!

Lacey Dunn ’28 and Professor Luke Keller are exploring the intersection of music and astronomy.

Audrey McMahon ‘27, mentored by Lecturer Amber Lia-Kloppel, is creating an oil painting series titled “Faces of Ithaca,” transforming digital portraits of community members into vibrant works of art.

Professor Ian Woods and students Pamela Sherpa ‘29, Aashika Shah '26, and Natalie Kiser '29 are studying tardigrades (also known as "water bears"), screening moss and lichen samples under microscopes, capturing microscopic imagery, and conducting PCR and gel electrophoresis to better understand these remarkable organisms.

Innovation, creativity, and discovery don't stop when the semester ends.

Congratulations to Chrissy Guest, program director of television, film, and digital media and associate professor in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, on receiving a 2026 Teaching Excellence Award from the University Film and Video Association!

This is the second time UFVA has recognized Guest for excellence in teaching, having also been honored in 2019.

“I am deeply honored to receive the 2026 Teaching Excellence Award from the University Film and Video Association,” Guest said. “Teaching television, film, and live event production is about helping students develop their own creative voices while giving them the experience, confidence, and discipline to bring their ideas to life. I’m grateful to work with students and colleagues at Ithaca College who make that kind of ambitious, hands-on learning possible.”

More than 200 high school students spent the past few weeks singing, dancing, and programming robots at IC while experiencing our campus and learning from college faculty.

From the Theatre Conservatory to the Tech Innovation Summer Academy and Summer College programs, our campus has been anything but quiet this summer.

Four local law enforcement organizations—Ithaca College Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, the Cornell University Police Department, the Ithaca Police Department, and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office—joined forces to play ball and raise awareness about mental health.

IC’s own Aaron Bouyea, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation, served as umpire.

And ... IC won the championship game.

The Roommate love is real. Deep friendships, quirky traditions, and lifelong bonds forged over dining hall breakfasts, dessert runs, and late-night conversations. Roommates make life great.

These roommates are still best of friends – they are in eachother’s weddings, take annual trips together and have active text chains they cannot live without.

The Grassroots Festival is Ithaca summer at its finest. Over 20,000 gather over 4 days to camp, dance and… wash dishes?!?

IC alumni come back to the festival each year to keep it green, washing about 14,000 dishes and silverware for the concertgoers.
