Finally had nice enough weather to return to our summer training spot at Stewart Park.
Studying classical Japanese combative traditions - Shinto Muso Ryu Jo and ancillary arts. Swordsmanship is also taught as part of this system. Bieri.
We are a group based in Ithaca, New York studying Shinto Muso Ryu Jo - a 400 year old Japanese martial tradition focused on use of the jo, a four foot long staff. This art was studied by feudal-era law enforcement officers in certain parts of Japan. It was our privilege to have Michael Söderkvist sensei join us for a gasshuku in Chicago this past weekend to help grow our understanding of Ittatsu-ryu hojojutsu. Of course, there was lots of training in all of the other portions of our curriculum as well, with attendees from Minnesota, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Michigan.
