Ithaca, NY -- On February 14, 2022 Ithaca College Alumni Against Austerity and students from attended an open Board of Trustees virtual meeting and asked Board chair, David Lissy, why the Board of Trustees hasn’t taken action to remove Dr. Luvelle Brown from the Ithaca College Board of Trustees. IC Alumni Against Austerity and noted allegations of child abuse, the use of ICSD resources to access his children (despite Judge Hayden’s directive that he does not do so), and a history of unethical conflicts of interest.

David’s Lissy’s response was: “...the board of trustees are aware of allegations that have been made against Dr. Brown, but we don’t comment on personal and family matters.”

How Students Have Been Advocating for Laid-Off Campus Workers 04/15/2021

The struggles currently happening at Ithaca College for greater financial transparency and better shared governance are ones also happening at other higher ed institutions across the country. We’re still working and will always be pushing for greater support for the staff and faculty affected by cuts due to the APP; here’s an article summarizing how some of these struggles have been going this past year and what the core issues mean

While the administration claims over and over again to be transparent, saying they are listening to the student body and alumni groups who have major concerns about the proposed shape of the college (APP) plan, they recently admitted their unwillingness to include students and alumni in this process in the attached video clip. As they reference point 4.9.8 in the faculty handbook wherein it is stated "Proposals for changes in staffing plans, or discontinuance or redesign of a program, may be initiated by faculty or administration..." no where does it say students and alumni are not allowed be included in this process. What is apparent instead is that our current administration CHOOSES not to include those voices.

In a recent Q&A with the administration in the Ithacan they also chose to attack the interviewer instead of honestly answering questions about transparency at Ithaca college (https://theithacan.org/news/qa-administration-speaks-about-app-and-faculty-cuts/?fbclid=IwAR3ThYRZB5nvEhVGlzF9SSNJxNcBAYAcrIOBe0eA8Zud-SqTobWNg5t2YEM) Now they are ignoring proposed SGC bills of no confidence in this plan for the college, and a bill of financial transparency for the administration.

Even though it is being run like one, Ithaca College is NOT simply a business lead by the administration; it is a community made up of staff, faculty, alumni and students who care for their community members currently being mistreated by those in power.

Arbitrator rules against administration in contingent faculty case | The Ithacan 02/20/2021

“Their (the IC administration and Senior Leadership Team’s) decision to pursue a lengthy and costly legal fight, at a time when ostensible financial constraints are being used as a justification for mass terminations among staff and faculty, displays a clear error in judgement-“
