This weekend, tour an active solar + agriculture project in Candor, NY! ☀️ From 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, September 26, Cornell and United Agrivoltaics are hosting an open house at the Candor Central School District’s solar farm, a NYSERDA-funded project located behind the Candor bus garage at 163 Spencer Rd.

On the site, Caleb Scott of United Agrivoltaics is growing mushrooms, strawberries, mint, and lavender and grazing sheep within the solar array. Come learn about his experience conducting agrivoltaics across multiple sites and ask questions about crop production and multispecies grazing in solar arrays.

What happens when a university challenges its own community to unplug? That’s the idea behind Cornell Unplugged Week: seven days of screen-free meals, in-person events, and faculty-led experiments that encourage meaningful connections beyond our devices.

From September 14-20, the Cornell community is invited to put the phone down and look up. Cornell Unplugged is an opportunity to share a meal without distractions, attend an event face-to-face, and reconnect with the people and places that make Cornell unique.

Are you looking to engage in your community around gardening in a new way? Become a Master Gardener Volunteer!

The Master Gardener Volunteer (MGV) training prepares volunteers to be peer educators who build relationships with the community and teach others about gardening, with a special focus on food security and environmental stewardship. MGVs work with community and educational garden programs throughout the county. Previous experience in gardening is encouraged but not required- enthusiasm for plants, food, and/or sustainability is the main requirement!

Applications are open until July 13th, and the training will start at the end of August. Filling out this form does not guarantee acceptance to the training, as we consistently receive more interest than we have space for.
