LLAB 14 marked an outstanding close to the semester with final awards recognizing excellent cadet performance and the official Change of Command ceremony, honoring our outgoing leadership and welcoming the new team ready to lead Det 520 into the upcoming semester. Congratulations to all of our award winners, and always remember to continue to lead and inspire those around you!
Det 520 has wrapped up for the semester– good luck to all of our AS200s as they prepare to go to Maxwell Air Force Base for Field Training this summer and congratulations to our seniors getting ready to commission into the Air and Space Force!

Det 520 cadets kicked off LLAB 13 with their final Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) of the semester! Cadets then transitioned into makeup LLAB activities, beginning with Open Ranks Inspection (ORIs) to reinforce attention to detail, discipline, and uniform standards. LLAB concluded with a simulated campus march, where cadets executed proper marching and road guard procedures while moving under strict time hacks to reach their assigned stations. This high-tempo training environment helped prepare cadets for the intensity and expectations of Field Training this summer, emphasizing both physical endurance and precise ex*****on under pressure.

In LLAB 12, Det 520 cadets participated in Operation Clear Horizon, a large-scale Group Leadership Project (GLP) conducted in two phases. During the first phase, cadets organized into flights and utilized drill movements to navigate obstacles and gather intelligence at checkpoints throughout the course. In the second phase, teams applied this information to solve puzzles crucial to completing the mission. They leveraged a variety of resources to overcome real-time challenges, including injects. Throughout the operation, mission success was achieved by effective communication and teamwork!

Cadets at Det 520 challenged themselves by successfully completing a field training exercise (FTX), the first of the semester. The exercise tested cadets both physically and mentally, pushing them beyond their limits. Despite the cold, rainy conditions in the woods, they persevered through mock cyber warfare activities, small unit tactics, and IED/UXO simulations. A huge thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this event possible!

In LLAB 11, Det 520 traveled to Mt. Pleasant to execute Leadership Reaction Courses (LRCs). LRCs are team based obstacle courses designed to evaluate cadets on leadership, followership, problem solving, and teamwork in a high stress environment. With a variety of different obstacles at Mt. Pleasant, cadets were able to strengthen their communication, adaptability, and ability to lead under pressure while working together to accomplish each mission.

During LLAB 10, cadets refined their squadron marching skills by practicing drill movements to strengthen discipline, coordination, and attention to detail as a unified squadron. They then applied critical thinking and teamwork during the Air Force Wargame: Indo-Pacific (AFWI), exploring strategic decision-making in a dynamic, real-world scenario. This LLAB provided valuable experience in both leadership ex*****on and operational planning, reinforcing how coordination and strategy contribute to mission success.

In LLAB 8, Det 520 focused on advancing drill proficiency and real-world application. GMC cadets learned and practiced counter march, column half movements, double time, column of files, and building entry procedures. Cadets then put these skills to the test during a simulated campus march inside Barton Hall, emphasizing adaptability, situational awareness, and teamwork in a controlled environment.
