CREA's Executive Director Tom Schryver testified in Albany on Nov. 10 to share some of the many ways that state funding has supported entrepreneurship success at Cornell University, in Ithaca, and around the Southern Tier region. Highlights included Ursa Space Systems recent raise and hiring announcement, RosieApp's growth to over 100 retailers nationwide, winners C4V from Binghamton University, and the work of the Southern Tier Startup Alliance with support from Empire State Development's NYSTAR program.

Everyone at CREA is proud to support such a wide network of success stories in our schools, cities, and throughout our region and state. Here's looking forward to more stories in 2018!

Haley Scofield and Nathan Oakes of Cornell startup Combplex are making an impact for bee health through resources in Cornell's entrepreneurial ecosystem, including the Rev: Ithaca Startup Works Hardware Accelerator and now Cornell eLab accelerator.

The founders of Combplex, a startup run by two Cornell doctoral students, presented their bee colony monitoring technology in Washington, D.C., Nov. 14.

It's great to start the week with such an uplifting article from The Cornell Daily Sun about Colby Triolo's startup YouMakeYou and all of the resources for student entrepreneurs in the Cornell ecosystem; Cornell eLab accelerator, Cornell eHub, and Life Changing Labs are just a few of the possibilities here. We agree Colby: the opportunities are endless!

Cornell supports student entrepreneurs through programs such as eLab, which aims to help students juggle both their startups and school work at the same time.

Monday marked the beginning of this year's Commercialization Fellows program, a partnership between Cornell University College of Engineering and Cornell Center for Regional Economic Advancement. Our region has always been an R&D hotbed, and the resources in our entrepreneurial ecosystem keep growing. Luminate Accelerator is a new program for startups working on machine vision, inspection, biophotonics, security, surveillance, augmented and virtual reality, autonomous vehicles, and other optics technologies. The deadline to apply is September 15.

Twenty semi-finalists will be selected to interview in Rochester, New York, in November, vying for 10 finalist spots in the first cohort of the program, which will run from January to June 2018. Programs like Rev: Ithaca Startup Works promote economic development and teach valuable entrepreneurship skills. Congratulations to all the teams who presented at Demo Day last night!

How do student entrepreneurs spend their summer at Cornell? The 11-week Hardware Accelerator program at Rev: Ithaca Startup Works allows teams to work collaboratively across disciplines, turning their initial ideas into prototypes. Last night, the teams pitched their projects, which included a dual-action keyboard, a beehive monitoring system and an indoor garden!
